Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) in the Towns of Banff and Canmore, together with the MD of Bighorn are launching the Bow Valley Volunteer Driver Program
On a cost-recovery basis, the volunteer driver program will match volunteer drivers with seniors and persons with disabilities needing transportation to medical appointments.
The primary focus is seniors and those with disabilities for medical purposes either between Bighorn, Canmore and Banff or into Calgary. Others requiring transportation for medical purposes will be accommodated as resources allow. Drivers donate their time, but their fuel costs are recovered and are the responsibility of the client: a standardized fee schedule has been developed.
There is an application and screening processes for both drivers and clients. These forms are now available on our website or by calling our office for more details. We are very excited about this new program and hope that it will assist our community in meeting their medical transportation needs.
